Girls Making Media Project

Girls Making Media project is a three year project based in Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Togo directly benefiting at least 140 adolescent girls and 30 adult journalists in each country


Poto Poto

Poto-Poto is an awareness-raising campaign about child rights and young people’s problems in Africa, which was launched by Plan and AURA (Artistes United for African Rap) in July 2006.


Radio campaign in West Africa : "I am a child but I have my rights too !"

The radio campaign "I am a child but I have my rights too !" has been produced by Plan in West Africa since 1998 in collaboration with almost 100 radio stations.


Kids Waves

Since 2004, children are promoting their rights through radio in 8 countries in West Africa : Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo

    Benin

Eto Dodo Deviwo, "Listening to children", is the Beninois version of "Kids Waves".


 
    Burkina Faso

Overview of 2009 activities in Burkina Faso : ‘Bibir Radio’

Key activities in Burkina Faso in 2009 included the training of several young journalists on various aspects of print journalism including writing editorials and photo journalism.


Bibir Radio

Bibir Radio, which means "The Radio of the Children" in Dagara, one of the languages of the country of "people of integrity", started on 15 April 2005 in Gaoua.


 
    Cameroon

Overview of 2009 activities in Cameroon : ‘KIDS 4 KIDS’

I am a child but I have my rights too !

The launch of the project’s first phase took place on 27 February 2007, following the training of radio presenters from 22 to 26 May 2006 in Yaoundé.


 
    Ghana

Overview of 2009 activities in Ghana : ‘Yen Adwen’

Salomey, member of Odumase child rights club : “When I took the leadership role to be the team leader for organizing the Swine Flu Campaign I thought I was going to work with the facilitator but he encouraged us to do the work ourselves. I am glad I can take credit for the work I have done.”


Yen Adwen and Voices of Children

Plan Ghana have been making programmes on child rights for many years on two radio stations : Yen Adwen on Adom FM and Voices of Children on Radio Upper West.


 
    Guinea-Conakry

Overview of 2009 activities in Guinea

Of the 20 Kids Waves radio programs recorded live in Guinea in the last year, three of those produced were synchronized to coincide with significant child rights events in the calendar year.


La Voix de Finda et Alpha

"La Voix de Finda et Alpha" is the Guinean version of "Kids Waves" which was launched on 25 March 2006.


 
    Liberia

Overview of 2009 activities in Liberia

In celebration of the Day of the African Child, project stakeholders were actively involved in organizing a mass dissemination of cell phone text messages across Liberia.

The radio campaign for raising awareness of child rights was launched in Liberia.


 
    Mali

Overview of 2009 activities Mali : ‘Denmisenw Kunkan’

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the CRC, Mali planned several activities - at local, national and international levels - for the whole of month of November. Activities included conferences, debates, seminars and assessment meetings.


Denmisenw Kun Kan

Denmisenw Kun Kan, which means "The voice of the children", was launched on 16 July 2005 at the ‘Cité des enfants’ in Bamako.


 
    Niger

Zankey Jinda

Zankey Jinda or "The voice of children" in Djerma, is the Nigerien version of "Kids Waves".


 
    Senegal

Overview of 2009 activities Senegal : ‘Radio Gune Yi’

The themes of the child rights radio programs broadcast in Senegal in 2009 were self-selected by children and covered an array of issues directly affecting their lives.


Reflection and creativity

The project Reflection and creativity in education for development is an initiative of Plan International’s West Africa Regional Office (WARO) supported by Plan Senegal. It took place in Notto, in the Thiès region and in Fass Mbao, a suburb of Dakar.


Radio Gune Yi

Radio Gune Yi (radio for children) is the first radio project for, by and with children in the West African sub-region.


Tundu Joor

Tundo Joor is an awareness-raising project on child rights led by Plan and Nokia.


 
    Sierra Leone

Overview of 2009 activities Sierre Leone

Youth media groups in Sierra Leone helped stage a special community radio show in celebration of the UNCRC 20th Anniversary involving a concert performed by Bai Abdul Sahid Kargbo, a musician and national celebrity in Sierra Leone.


Pikin Dem Voice

Pikin Dem Voice is Sierra Leone’s local version of the West Africa Regional Project "Kids Waves".


 
    Togo

Overview of 2009 activities Togo : ‘Deviwo Be Radio’

The main activities carried out in 2009 included choosing themes for radio programs, identifying and training participants to take part as well as recording and post-production activities, which included : editing, mixing and making copies of broadcasts.


Deviwo Be Radio

"Deviwo Be Radio" is the local name of "Kids Waves" in Togo, which means "Our radio, to us the children !"


CEFRET

The Radio Training Centre for children in Togo (CEFRET) is one of Plan-Togo’s ‘Children and the Media’ Programme projects, with the same name as the radio campaign ‘Deviwo Be Radio’ (DBR).
