Radio Gune Yi (radio for children) is the first radio project for, by and with children in the West African sub-region.
Kids Waves is based on the experience of Radio Gune Yi and the awareness-raising campaign for child rights in West Africa "I am a child but I have my rights too !".
Kids Waves/RGY began on 18 March 2005 in Fass Mbao, a suburb of Dakar with RTS, Senegalese Radio Television, as main broadcasting partner, which shares the programmes made by the RGY team, twice a week between RTS and RSI (World Space). The involvement of other partner radio stations, particularly community and rural radio stations is envisaged to be in closer touch with local communities.
The programmes are produced in Plan’s operation zones (Dakar, Thiés, Diourbel, Louga and St Louis), but also in other regions in the country thanks to support from local partnerships.
A TV version of this project (Télé Gune Yi) is currently being developed with RTS still as production partner.
