The Tundu Joor Project started in 2005 in Senegal as Plan pilot project designed to promote Children’s Rights through music.

For several months, Plan has been searching in the eleven regions of Senegal for gifted children musicians and singers who come from different backgrounds in order to train them for the promotion of their rights through music.

The Tundu Joor Project is a pilot Plan Project financed by Plan Senegal.

If successful as expected, it will be extended to the other West African countries.

Mr Macodé DIOP, Coordinator of the Tundu Joor Project : "Why did we choose the medium of music ?"

Because music is accessible to everybody throughout the country. Through music, children who are begenning artists and children who are professional artists are going to disseminate all the messages advocating for the promotion of children’s rights.

The project is divided in four stages :

The first step is preparation, which consists in doing some casting throughout the country in order to identify the talented ones who can accompany this project and help us reach our goal

The second step is the training phase which consists in building the capacities of these stakeholders as regards children’s rights, but also as regards citizenship.

Professional musicians and very famous artists acompany the children during all this creative process (Didier Awadi, Omar Ndiaye Xosluman, ...)

The third phase is production. Once we have build the stakeholders’ capacities, once they have produced a musical work in accordance with the rights approach, they go into the studio to record those works.

The fourth stage is dissemination, that is to say organizing concerts in the eleven regions of Senegal.

Once the musical works have been recorded on CD’s, DVD’s and filmed concerts, those are going to be distributed free of charge for the general public in schools and cultural centers, but must of all, on radio and TV stations and on the web via the Plan website.
